From the discussion I had the idea that students were admitted to TJ based on gpa, and that the top 1.5% of kids from each middle school automatically get in. But it looks like there is an admissions test. While it is true that each middle school gets a certain number of seats at TJ, kids at each school are evaluated based on a number of different factors, not just gpa. Plus a bunch of seats at the school are not allocated based on middle school attended. It looks like the demographic breakdown for the most recently enrolled class was 60% asian and 20% white.
