A weekly rundown of disagreement-worthy moments.
A Different Kind of Conversation
Very few public figures are actually willing to engage across lines of difference. is continuing an admirable and all-too-rare commitment to having those conversations by appearing on the Flagrant podcast.
We were tickled to see one of our phrases in the frame: “I know how important it is to launch a different kind of conversation,” said. We agree, Mayor Pete. We agree.
Intellectually Honest
👀 Writer Jesse Singal published what we thought was a constructive, honest critique of Bari Weiss’ recent Marco Rubio interview on The Free Press. Singal and Weiss are colleagues and friends - a good starting place for any healthy disagreement.

Is telepathy real? - The Telepathy Tapes podcast is still sparking controversy. Friend of the podcast Liz Weil just posted her view in NYMag. Read it here or listen to our disagreement about it here.
Is anyone alive out there? We’ve been eagerly following the recent disagreements and back-and-forth about potentially new evidence for extraterrestrial life. We believe disagreement can lead us to some seriously good solutions for the biggest problems of our times. There’s no better place for that than the halls of science. Learn more about the back-and-forth here and listen to our disagreement about it here.
Ships in the Night
Andrea Long Chu wrote a snarky critique of former NYT Opinion columnist Pamela Paul: “The contrarian columnist showed us the intolerable side of liberalism.” Commentary is great but thoughtful dialogue is better. We would love to facilitate a productive conversation between the two of them.
Andrea and Paula…get at me.
How To Disagree
Disagreement advisor and long time friend of the pod, Bob Bordone, just published a book that we strongly recommend: Conflict Resilience: Negotiating Without Giving Up or Giving In. It’s already on my night stand and I must say, 10/10 would recommend.
Bob also recently wrote about his views on disagreement for WBUR Cognoscenti.
“For me—a practicing Catholic, a gay man and someone who has devoted his professional life to helping people navigate conflict—it also revealed something profound about Pope Francis’ legacy: his embrace of conflict resilience.”
